Stay Plugged In......

Earlier this evening my kids were getting ready for bed time, when the light bulb in their room went out.  I quickly went to a get a new bulb and screwed it in.  I was surprised when I turned on the lamp, but the light did not come on. I plugged the lamp into a different outlet, thinking that would solve the problem, but the light still did not come on.  Eventually, I realized that the light switch on the wall was still turned off, so I got up, turned on the switch and the light came on.

Immediately, I thought of how the situation applied to my pursuits as an entrepreneur.  I thought about the times that I had attempted to get involved with different business models as a vehicle to create wealth.  There have been many businesses; including standard brick and mortar as well as network marketing applications that I have tried to utilize, before arriving at my current businesses in the areas of Real Estate, Internet Information Marketing and independent marketing consulting.  In that moment, I began to think about why I was finding success with the current set of pursuits and not the previous ones.  In addition to making sure that my current business pursuits are inter-related and mutually benefiting one another, the real difference is me.  When I was going from business to business, I was failing to recognize that I needed to work on my inner development.  Each of those businesses were valid  vehicles to reach my goals of financial independence.  So what changed?

My attitude and my determination to succeed, along with my "WHY", became so much bigger than my "how" (the method).  Each disappointment that I experience in business is no longer seen as a failure or a set-back, but a learning experience and a temporary circumstance.  It's like when I was trying to get the light on in my kids' room.  I never doubted that I would eventually get the light on, because I knew that the source of energy was there and available, I just needed to make the proper adjustment and stay plugged in.
